Mountain Plant

Claytonia megarhiza

This plant thrives in the high peaks of the Rocky Mountains. It is a succulent. It is delicate and long-lived. Claytonia megarhiza is a common alpine plant growing on talus and scree in North American mountain ranges, forming perfect rosettes of leathery leaves surrounded by porcelain white flowers. The magnificent roots can grow to six feet long and up to three inches in diameter!

Valley flower

Canarian bellflower

There are 600 species of plants that only grow in the Canary Islands. This is the Canarian bellflower, a beautiful vine that thrives in damp valleys and laurel forests.

Some flowers and plants will only grow on the mountains.

Some will only grow in the valleys.

As Christians, some of the things we learn about God, we can only learn on the mountain top when we are happy. Some we can only learn when we are in the valley and we are really suffering and we may feel that God is not near to us. But in actual fact, during both of these times God is very near to us, because at all times He will never let us go especially when we are living to love, please and serve Him! We learn many things about God when life is tough and we are climbing the mountain so to speak. God is in fact making us stronger, in order that we can face whatever the future may bring. God knows the future, we do not! But God always wants to prepare us, because He loves us and wants the best for us!

As we grow we realise that God is actually close to us at all times, but it is in extreme happiness, when God has answered yes to a long desired prayer, or in extreme sadness and sorrow that we feel God’s love surrounding us.

Plants will flourish and blossom when they live in the correct environment. So will we!

We must make sure we are in the correct environment to experience God’s love and care. He loves and cares for us at all times, but many times we may feel far away from Him.

In order to be in the correct environment we must have correct attitudes in our lives.

God loves to hear our prayers for help to live in the right way.

We need the help of the Holy Spirit in order to live in the way that pleases God.

With God’s help we must give up all bitterness, gossip and grudges.

With God’s help we must humble ourselves before Him and get rid of all false pride.

ARE YOU IN A VALLEY, Then God is training you!

Bible verse: Isaiah Chapter 43 verses 2-3.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.

Bible verse: 1 KingsChapter 20 verse 28.  The man of God came up and told the king of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord says: ‘Because the Arameans think the Lord is a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know that I am the Lord.’

Whenever we stand on the mountain, we are able to see clearly. It is the best vantage point to see what lies ahead. Wouldn’t it be great to live on the mountain all the time in order to anticipate what is ahead?  God allows us to experience the mountain top at times.

Joseph’s first mountain top experience was as a young man. He had the favour of his father, Jacob. He was given a fine coat and even had a dream about his future. As a young man, Joseph had a sense of destiny about his life.

God often gives us a picture of our future so that we will remember this picture when we are being tested to trust Him in the valley. This picture usually does not reveal how God intends to bring about the visions for our life. However, none of us really derive the character qualities God desires for our lives while we are on the mountain.

It is in the valley where the fruit is planted and harvested. It cannot grow on the mountain; it must grow in the valley. God is a God of the mountain, but He is even more a God of the valley. In the valley, it is more difficult to see ahead; the clouds often cover the valley and limit our sight.

Joseph was thrust into a deep valley that left him wondering if the God of his father had forsaken him.

Jesus hoped that He might be able to avoid the valley that caused Him to sweat blood.

Gethsemane

Bible verses

Mark 14:32-42   Gethsemane

32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”

33 He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled.

“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”

35 Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him.

36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

37 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?

38 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

39 Once more he went away and prayed the same thing.

40 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him.

41 Returning the third time, he said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.

42 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

Luke 22:39-46     Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives

Gethsemane 3

39 Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.

40 On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,

42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.

44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

45 When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.

46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

Gethsemane 2

GETHSEMANE

“Have You Had a Gethsemane?”

In the garden He went to pray

when it seemed hope was gone.

He prayed with a broken heart.

And he prayed all alone.

Have you had a Gethsemane?

Have you prayed in despair?

In the dark of those weary hours

did the Lord meet you there?

Have you had a Gethsemane?

Have you prayed the night through?

Have you shed tears in agony

when no hope was in you?

Have you prayed,

“If it is thy will may this cup pass from me?

But if it’s your will, dear Lord,

I will bear it for thee?”

            ************************************
There is a valley that each of us must enter, usually unwillingly, in order to experience the God of the valley and to experience His faithfulness in the valley. Once we have spent time in this valley, we come out with something we would have never gained if we had not entered it. The valley brings much fruit into our lives so that we might plant seeds into the lives of others. God does not waste valley experiences. If we are faithful in the valley, we will enter a new dimension with God that we never thought possible. There is a harvest of wisdom and virtue that can only be grown in the valley.

Has God brought you into the valley?

Know that the valley is a place of fruitfulness;

It is a place of testing.

It is where God brings what you know in your head into your heart.

The only value of knowledge is when it becomes part of your heart.

Look for God in the valley today.
