God Works In A Mysterious Way

Standard

We all have times in our lives when we do not understand why God is allowing us to suffer certain problems and events. At times like that we need to remember that God’s ways are not our ways.

GOD MOVES IN A MYSTERIOUS WAY.   (Hymn)

God moves in a mysterious way

His wonders to perform;

He plants His footsteps in the sea,

And rides upon the storm.

Deep in unfathomable mines

of never-ending skill

He treasures up His bright designs,

and works His sovereign will.

Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take,

the clouds ye so much dread

are big with mercy, and shall break

in blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,

but trust Him for His grace;

behind a frowning providence

He hides a smiling face.

His purposes will ripen fast,

unfolding every hour;

the bud may have a bitter taste,

but sweet will be the flower.

Blind unbelief is sure to err,

and scan His work on vain;

God is His own interpreter,

and He will make it plain.

Think of the Disciples when they saw their beloved Jesus hanging on a cross. Crucified when He had done no wrong. But God the Father had a higher purpose, in what seemed to be a failure. It seemed to be an unfair situation. But it was all part of God’s plan to save mankind. Jesus, in willing obedience to God The Father, had to die on the cross, be buried and after three days be resurrected. We know from reading the gospels in The Bible that Jesus met with many people after He had risen from the dead and before He ascended back to Heaven. Death had been conquered and eternal life was made available to everyone.

Whosoever will may come to Jesus and be saved.

Romans Chapter 10 verse 13  13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Eternal life does not only start when we die. When we sincerely accept Jesus as our own personal Saviour and Lord, eternal life begins for us here on earth. It is a different quality of life. Life begins to make sense and there is a feeling of purpose. We begin to feel the love of God, joy and peace in our lives. This leads to us feeling compassion and understanding for other people

If we constantly reject Him, right up until the time we die, our soul will still go on living, but in hell not in Heaven. Hell is a place where souls are permanently shut off from God, with no chance of redemption. Heaven is a place where we are permanently and eternally in the presence of God.

And so we shall be forever with the Lord.

Psalm 23 verse 6   6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Have you ever had a failure, an unfair situation in your life ? Is life like that for you right now?

Have you  ever lived through a time when nothing seemed to go right? Are you going through such a time now?

Hang on! God knows what is happening. Life will not always be like this. This too will pass.

God has a reason and a purpose in everything He does. He knows ‘The big picture’. He knows the future.

Jesus lived a perfect life. He never sinned. He was always obedient to God The Father. He did no wrong but He suffered. The disciples suffered and we may have to suffer too.

Jesus’ words to His disciples. “In the world you will have trouble but do not worry. I have overcome the world.

John Chapter 16 verse 33   33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

He knows what you can stand. He will never give you too much to bear. But be aware that satan will try to pull you away from God and away from reading The Bible, praying and mixing with other Christians. Satan will try to make you despair and panic. Satan will try to get at your mind. He will try to make you think that there is no hope and he will try to isolate you. It is easier for satan to tempt you to despair when you feel lonely.

Isaiah 55:8-11

8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.

9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

1 Peter chapter 1 verses 3-9  Praise to God for a Living Hope

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,

5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.

8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

9 for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

A Parable of a Child

By Steve Goodier www.LifeSupportSystem.com

There is a difference between education and experience. Education is what you get from reading the small print. Experience is what you get from not reading it. But isn’t it true that great learning comes from both education and experience?

Let me tell you a parable: A young school teacher had a dream that an angel appeared to him and said, “You will be given a child who will grow up to become a world leader. How will you prepare her? How will you challenge her intelligence? How will you help her grow in confidence? How will you help her develop both her assertiveness as well as her sensitivity? How will you teach her to be open-minded and, at the same time, strong in character? In short, what kind of education will you provide that she can become one of the world’s truly GREAT leaders?”

The young teacher awoke in a cold sweat. It had never occurred to him before — any ONE of his present or future students could be the person described in his dream. Was he preparing them to rise to ANY POSITION to which they may aspire? He thought, ‘How might my teaching change if I KNEW that one of my students were this person?’

He gradually began to formulate a plan in his mind. This student would need experience as well as instruction. She would need to know how to solve problems of all kinds. She would need to become knowledgeable, but more than that. She would also need to stand firmly on strong values and grow in character. She would need self-assurance as well as the ability to listen well and work with others. She would need to understand and appreciate the past, yet convey a realistic hope about the future. She would need to know the value of lifelong learning in order to keep a curious and active mind. She would need to grow in understanding of others and become a student of the spirit. She would need to set high standards for herself and learn self discipline, yet she would also need love and encouragement, that she might know compassion.

His teaching changed. Every young person who walked through his classroom became, for him, a future world leader. He saw each one, not as they were, but as they could be. He expected the best from his students, yet tempered it with gentleness. He taught each one as if the future of the world depended on his instruction.

After many years, a woman he knew rose to a position of world prominence. He realized that she must surely have been the girl described in his dream. Only she was not one of his students – she was his daughter. For of all the various teachers in her life, her father was the best. I’ve heard it said that “Children are living messages we send to a time and place we will never see.”

But this isn’t simply a parable about an unnamed school teacher. It is a parable about you and me – whether or not we are parents or even teachers. And the story, OUR story, actually begins like this: “You will be given a child who will grow up to become….” You finish the sentence. If not a world leader, then a superb father? An excellent teacher? A gifted healer? An innovative problem solver? An inspiring artist? A generous philanthropist?

Where and how you will encounter this child is a mystery. But believe that one child’s future may depend upon influence only you can provide, and something remarkable will happen. For no young person will ever be ordinary to you again. And you will never be the same. By Steve Goodier.

Jesus Changes the Water into Wine

Standard

Stone Water Jars 7

John  Chapter 2

1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,

2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.

3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”

4 “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”

5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Stone Water Jars 3

6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.

7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.

Stone Water Jars  2

8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”  They did so,

Stone water Jars 6                               Stone Water Jars 4

9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside

10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

***********************************

Dear Friend,

The first of Jesus’ miracles, turning water into wine, takes place in John Chapter 2.

I call this ‘Making the Ordinary, Extraordinary.’ It was an ordinary wedding and ordinary water that Jesus transformed. I love that because Jesus specializes in working in ordinary settings with ordinary people and ordinary things, but resulting in extraordinary consequences. The wedding, which took place in Cana of Galilee, was well on its way when Mary came to Him and said: ‘They have no more wine’ (John 2:3). She came with the expectation that Jesus would do something. And, even though His reply is: ‘Woman, why do you involve me…My hour has not yet come’ (John 2:4), she walks away, confident that He will take care of it. She orders the servants to do what He tells them. This is probably the best sermon Mary ever preached: ‘Do whatever he tells you’ (John 2:5). This is what happens:

‘Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim’ (John 2:6-7).

From this statement, three important principles emerge that make the ordinary the extraordinary.

1. Jesus begins by giving a command. Every act of God is precipitated by an act of obedience.

2. When Jesus Christ gives a command, follow it fully. Sometimes God’s working in our lives is not evident, not because God is not able but because our obedience is casual or conditional or half-hearted – we don’t ‘fill to the brim.’

3. When you obey Him, trust Him. If every act of God is precipitated by obedience, then every act of obedience must be followed by trust. Having done what he has given us to do, He will now work.

There is no record that Jesus ever turned water into wine again.

The disciples put their faith in Him, period.

They knew that however ordinary they were, however ordinary life was, this One in whom they put their faith is the One who makes the ordinary extraordinary.

That’s why you can go back to your workplace, back to your school, back to your home, fully aware of the ordinariness of your life, fully aware of the wateriness of your life, and say, ‘Lord Jesus, I am trusting You today; here’s the water; I’ll do whatever You tell me. I will fill the jars to the brim – and You will make it wine.’

This really is the joy of the Christian life. The Living Truth of God makes the ordinary extraordinary!

PS – The miracles of Jesus result in transformed lives. Love, obedience and dependence – that’s all He asks!

Raindrops 14          Raindrops 10          Rainbow 11

We, by ourselves, cannot perform miracles in our own strength, but we can allow God to perform miracles, in our own lives and the lives of others, by means of prayer. When we have asked Jesus to be our own personal Saviour and Lord and invited Him into our hearts and lives, His Holy Spirit lives inside of us. He is the Risen Saviour; He is alive. The Holy Spirit inside of us gradually changes us, throughout our lives, in order to make us fit to live in Heaven.

Our motives and desires gradually change to make us more like Jesus. We receive The Holy Spirit when we are first ‘born again’, and afterwards we need to continually pray to God to fill us with The Holy Spirit. The temptations and trials we have in this life are too strong for us to overcome in our own strength; we need God’s help. Sometimes we realise that we need to dedicate ourselves more fully to God; there are sometimes areas where we want to control things but we have to submit to God’s will.

Sometimes we give ourselves to God, making ourselves available to Him, to use us to help in the lives of other people. We do not have to be ‘extra special’.  All God wants is people who love other people and who want to serve Him. This does not mean that we will be able to perform dramatic miracles every day. It does not mean that all people will like us. Indeed some people will reject us, but it is more important to please God. It does mean that we can get on with whatever work we have to do everyday, knowing that God is working in the background. Whether you work in the home, somewhere grand, in a boring job, in a dangerous job, in an academic job, on a farm etc all work is important and God needs everyone and we need everyone. Miracles are not always big spectacular things. Sometimes they are the little things in our everyday lives.

You may never know when a miracle has happened to someone because you were kind to them or you prayed for them. You do not need to know. The joy that comes to you, from living to please God is a miracle in itself. It feels as if the ordinary has been changed into the extraordinary. It feels like the boring, mundane routine of life has become worthwhile.

It feels like the water of life has become the best wine!     Margaret Mainwaring

 Galatians  Chapter 6   New International Version   Doing Good to All

Galations ch 6 no 2   Galations ch 6

1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.

2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.

3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves.

4 Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else,

5 for each one should carry their own load.

6 Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.

7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.Galations ch 6 no 3

AFTER CHRISTMAS

Work of Christmas Begins . . . . . . Howard Thurman (adapted)

When the song of the angels is stilled,

when the star in the sky is gone,

when the kings and princes are home,

when the shepherds are back with the flocks,

then the work of Christmas begins:

to find the lost,

to heal those broken in spirit,

to feed the hungry,

to release the oppressed,

to rebuild the nations,

to bring peace among all peoples,

to make a little music with the heart…

And to radiate the Light of Christ,

every day, in every way,

in all that we do and in all that we say.

Then the work of Christmas begins.

The message of the Feast of Epiphany

announces to all people, everywhere:

Rise up in splendour…your light has come,

The Glory of the Lord shines upon you!

Let the work of Christmas begin,

and let it begin with you.

Post-Christmas Prayer

Long after the angels disappear into the heavens, the shepherds return to their flocks, the magi journey home and the great star sets, Jesus remains.

The Child in whom we rediscover God’s great love for humanity becomes the adult Redeemer who challenges us to imitate his selflessness and compassion in order that we might transform our world in love…

May we allow the miracle of Christmas to continue long after the holiday trappings have been packed away;

May we welcome the adult Messiah and his challenging Gospel to recreate our lives, making the peace, justice and hope of this holy season a reality in every season of the New Year.”

IF I CAN HELP SOMEBODY

Written in 1945 by Alma Bazel Androzzo, made famous by Mahalia Jackson,

a hit in 1951 for Irish tenor Joseph Locke.

If I can help somebody, as I pass along,

If I can cheer somebody, with a word or song,

If I can show somebody, how they’re travelling wrong,

Then my living shall not be in vain.

Chorus: My living shall not be in vain,

Then my living shall not be in vain

If I can help somebody, as I pass along,

Then my living shall not be in vain.

If I can do my duty, as a good man ought,

If I can bring back beauty, to a world up wrought,

If I can spread love’s message, as the Master taught,

Then my living shall not be in vain.

Chorus: My living shall not be in vain,

Then my living shall not be in vain

If I can help somebody, as I pass along,

Then my living shall not be in vain.

Many people have been coping with difficult situations during the last year or more. It looks like we have a lot more difficult times to get through in the coming months of this year too!

Whatever you are faced with today or this year, God will give you the strength and the provision to succeed in your task, if you pray and ask for His help and then trust Him completely.

God loves you 3

Bible verses Proverbs 3 verses 1-6

1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,

3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

4 Then you will win favour and a good name in the sight of God and man.

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heartand lean not on your own understanding;

6 in all your ways submit to him,and He will make your paths straight. (Or will direct your paths.)

Website Quotes 4

I have found this to be true! Great your strength if great your need!

When life is going great and we have few worries, we find it easier to thank God, to smile and to feel contented. There is nothing wrong with that, but when life is hard and bad things happen, it is very hard to be cheerful all the time. However, no matter how difficult our situation or circumstances, we can get through these times if we continue to put God first place in our lives. The way we put God first in our lives will vary from person to person because we are all unique, but I think we know, inwardly, when we are being selfish and not following The Lord. If we feel helpless and do not know where to turn, it is hard to just trust God completely, but it works! He knows what you are going through. He knows all things. He knows when you have been badly treated. He knows that you feel hurt, frightened and unsure of what to do. He suffered all these things when He lived on earth as a man. The world now, is not perfect like it was when He created it. Consequently we have trouble and problems in the world, but God is still in complete control. Trust God completely and you will come through your troubles stronger and wiser. You will have more compassion for people. God allows us to face problems in order that we will grow in our spirit. He is working in us to change us, to make us ready for Heaven, where we will live one day, if we personally make Jesus the Saviour and Lord of our life. Jesus is the only way to be forgiven of all our sin and made ready for eternal life in Heaven one day. That day may be when we die, or Jesus could return to earth before we die and take us to Heaven.

FATHER GOD

(No-one knows when that will be except God the Father.) Matthew Chapter 24 Verse 36

36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

(I recommend that you read all of Matthew Chapter 24.)

If you are going through trials or suffering in your life at the moment, it does not necessarily mean that you are doing something wrong, which is what we are inclined to think when troubles arise.  The disciples in the boat on the Sea of Galilee, when a terrific storm came, were obeying Jesus. He had told them to go over to the other side of the sea. Jesus knew that there would be a storm but He wanted His disciples to know that He is in control of all things. He knew He was going to keep them safe. (You can find this story in The Holy Bible Matthew 14:22-33 Jesus Walks on the Water.)

STORM   STORM   STORM 7

Even when you fully trust God you may still feel frightened or worried, but you can be confident that God will shield you. I know that many people in the world nowadays to have to face danger, but in a lot of the things we go through as Christians we are not actually in any danger, God is just making us stronger so that when we come through our trials we will be able to help others cope with their difficulties.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,                                                                                                                                                                  39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:1-5

1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.

3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;

4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.

5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Hebrews Chapter 12 verses 1-11

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

God Disciplines His Children

4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,

6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”

7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?

8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.

9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live!

10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.

11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

He Who would Valiant Be.

(Words by John Bunyan, 1684 (Writer of Pilgrims Progress.) as modified by Percy Dearmer, 1906)

KNIGHT

He who would valiant be ‘gainst all disaster,

let him in constancy follow the Master.

There’s no discouragement shall make him once relent

his first avowed intent to be a pilgrim.

Who so beset him round with dismal stories

do but themselves confound his strength the more is.

No foes shall stay his might; though he with giants fight,

he will make good his right to be a pilgrim.

Since, Lord, thou dost defend us with thy Spirit,

We know we at the end, shall life inherit.

Then fancies flee away! I’ll fear not what men say,

I’ll labour night and day to be a pilgrim.

(Words: Sabine Baring-Gould, 1834-1924 Music: Arthur S. Sullivan, 1842-1900)

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,

with the cross of Jesus going on before.

Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;

forward into battle see his banners go!

Refrain:

Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,

with the cross of Jesus going on before.

At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee;

on then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!

Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise;

brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.

(Refrain)

Like a mighty army moves the church of God;

brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.

We are not divided, all one body we,

one in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

(Refrain)

Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,

but the church of Jesus constant will remain.

Gates of hell can never ’gainst that church prevail;

we have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail.

(Refrain)

Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,

blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.

Glory, laud, and honour unto Christ the King,

this through countless ages men and angels sing.

(Refrain)

Soldiers

OFT IN DANGER, OFT IN WOE

(Words by Henry Kirke White, first printed in 1812, and added to by Frances Fuller-Maitland 1827.)

Oft in danger, oft in woe,

onward, Christian, onward go:

bear the toil; maintain the strife,

strengthened with the Bread of Life.

Onward Christians, onward go,

join the war and face the foe;

will ye flee in danger’s hour?

Know ye not your Captain’s power?

Let your drooping hearts be glad:

march in heavenly armour clad: fight,

nor think the battle long,

victory soon shall be your song.

Let not sorrow dim your eye,

soon shall every tear be dry;

let not fears your course impede,

great your strength, if great your need.

Onward then in battle move,

more than conquerors ye shall prove;

though opposed by many a foe,

Christian soldiers, onward go.
