The Promise Of Heaven

Lewisia 10   Lewisia 5   Lewisia 7

One of my favourite plants is Lewisia. After they flower, I collect the seeds. In the autumn is the best time sow the seeds. They germinate in the colder weather in the greenhouse. I have not yet tried to grow them from seed indoors in a warm room but they probably would grow. Although they can be grown outside in the garden, I move them into the greenhouse for most of the year, especially during the winter. They rot and die if they get too much water; so all this year, because we have had a lot of rain in England, I have kept them in the greenhouse. In the winter I keep them in the greenhouse, water them occasionally, very sparingly and cover them with newspapers when the weather is freezing cold, icy and snowy. Every spring they reward me with beautifully coloured flowers. Each colour is not just one solid colour but hues and shades of that colour. All this joy from very tiny, shiny black seeds! The intricate design and detail of each flower is one of God’s wonders to me. It got me thinking one day of all the wonders of God in nature; every fish, butterfly, bird, insect, animal and even earthworms etc are intricately made and designed. All parts of the human body are also designed perfectly. Think of the way our eyes, ears, brain, heart etc are formed in the womb before we are born. The greatest wonder of all is that Jesus, by His death and resurrection, has made a way for us to go to heaven when we die. We cannot imagine the beauty and wonders of heaven, but there will be no more tears, illness, cruelty etc and it will be perfect, just as the world was when God created it.

The following Holy Bible Verses teach us about salvation and Heaven.

1 Corinthians Chapter 15 verses 20-28

20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.

22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.

23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.

25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

27 For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ.

28 When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.

1 Corinthians Chapter 2    verses 6-10     New International Version

God’s Wisdom Revealed by the Spirit

6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.

7 No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.

8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love him—

10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.

The Promise of Heaven

Jesus verse

John  Chapter 14     New International Version     Jesus Comforts His Disciples

jesus 6

1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.

2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Jesus the Way to the Father

5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.

11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.

12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

15 “If you love me, keep my commands.

16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—

17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.

20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”

23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

25 “All this I have spoken while still with you.

26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.

30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me,

31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.  “Come now; let us leave.

John Chapter 17     New International Version     Jesus Prays to Be Glorified

Jesus praying 2

1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.

2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.

3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.

5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

Jesus Prays for His Disciples

Jesus praying

6 “I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word.

7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.

8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.

9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.

10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.

11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.

12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe bythat name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.

14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.

15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.

17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

Jesus Prays for All Believers

Jesus praying 3

20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,

21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—

23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

The agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, just before Judas betrays Him and Jesus is arrested and taken away to be tried.

Matthew Chapter 26 verses 36-46

36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”

37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.

38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

Gethsemane 2

39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”Jesus praying 4

40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter.

41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

Gethsemane 3

45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.

46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

God’s will is for everyone to be saved. The kingdom of God is at hand.

Jesus will return to earth one day. No-one knows the day or the hour except God the Father.

Good deeds alone will not get you into Heaven. But of course God wants us to do good deeds when and where we can.

Our salvation depends on what Jesus has done willingly, for each one of us, by dying and shedding His blood on the Cross and by His resurrection, His triumph over death.

Our responsibility is to accept Jesus’ free gift of salvation.

Jesus turns no-one away who earnestly asks for His forgiveness for the past and asks for His help to live the rest of their life to please Him.

Psalm 121 verses 2 & 3

2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

3 He will not let you be defeated. He who guards you never sleeps.

When you truly have the assurance that you know you will go to Heaven one day, either when you die or when Jesus comes back to earth (whichever comes first!), then you can truly live. Eternal life does not only start when you die. It begins as soon as you surrender yourself to the will of God and to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Life becomes meaningful, you have a purpose and you are accepted by God. All your sin has been forgiven and thrown into the deep sea.

Micah 7:18-19    New International Version (NIV)

18 Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. 19 You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.

The guilt has gone. This makes it easier to obey the two important commandments of Jesus.

The Two Greatest Commandments   Matthew chapter 22 verses 34-40

34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.

35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’

40 All the Law* and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

(* The Ten Commandments)

When we fully obey these two commandments of Jesus, we will find that we are in fact, obeying the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17)

Once you have surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, The Holy Spirit will teach you everything you need to know, if you listen to the still small voice of God in your heart as you pray and read The Holy Bible. This is a gradual process throughout life. You will have problems and you will make mistakes, but God will help you with your problems and forgive your mistakes when you confess them to Him. Your faith will get stronger as you go on. Just like an athlete trains to get better at their sport, as you overcome the hurdles in your life, you will realise how God has helped you with your difficulties.

2 Corinthians 5:17

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

We will find that we do not want to murder, hate, steal, envy other peoples property etc. We find that God helps us when we aim to live to please Him.  He gradually changes our desires and changes our stony hearts to hearts full of love, mercy and compassion.  We begin to see life and people from God’s point of view.  We have a renewed mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

One thing people worry about when they are unsure about surrendering their lives to Jesus is that He will give them something to do that they don’t like! But in fact God is The One who created you. He knows the things that are just right for your unique personality. He will guide you in to things that suit your personal gifts and talents, because He put them there in the first place! He will guide you safely too, because He knows the future! We live in a fallen world and life gets more difficult for people as time goes on, but God will train us how to cope with whatever hardship is to come.

“Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny.”

11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,

13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,

14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The Supremacy of the Son of God (JESUS)

15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
